Want to eat or feel healthier but not sure where to start?
It can seem overwhelming to completely change your life around and commit to a complete change in health and habits, you don’t have to make huge changes all at once to see a difference. Implementing just a few, healthy tips into your day can really make a change in the way you feel. Check out these five tips for maintaining a healthy lifestyle, and try some of them today!
1. Decide to Feel Better
This may not sound like it would actually be effective, but the first step in changing your life, and making healthy choices, is to make the decision to feel good. Look at yourself in the mirror in the morning, and decide you are going to feel great today, and make healthy choices along the way. Self-motivation is your best friend, and at the end of the day you can look back, and feel even better about the choices you made, and the confidence you’re building in yourself.
2. Recognize Your Triggers
Do you overeat when you have lunch with co-workers? Is it easier to take the bus than walk a few blocks home? Recognize the things you do everyday that you could change with just a few different choices. From snacks to activity, if you take the time to notice the things you could be doing, you’re likely to see all the subtle changes you could make toward better health.
3. Make One Change Today
Choose an apple instead of a donut, take the stairs instead of the elevator, etc. As before, once you recognize what you could be doing, the next step is to do it! You don’t have to get out there and run a marathon today – one small change can end up making a huge difference, and will likely inspire you to keep making those changes, once you see how easily it can be done.
4. Don’t Beat Yourself Up
Sometimes, it’s hard to stay motivated. Maybe you’ve been doing great on making healthy changes for awhile, and you ‘fall off the wagon’ for an evening – a little pizza never hurt anyone, though. It’s okay to indulge once in awhile, and it’s certainly not something to ‘give up’ over. Forgive yourself if you make an unhealthy choice once in awhile, get back up, and start again.
5. Celebrate The Buddy System
While only you can make the healthiest choices for your body, it’s never a bad idea to get a support system! Grab a friend and challenge each other to make healthy choices, or make sure the people you surround yourself are supportive of the healthy lifestyle you’re choosing to live. When you have the right kind of people cheering you every step of the way, deciding to live a healthier life is easy, and fun!
